What AI agents can and cannot do with Recordful, how to revoke access, and fixes for common problems.
What your AI can and cannot do
- Off until you turn it on, and off again with one switch in More → AI agents.
- Local only. The server listens on
127.0.0.1, so other devices and web pages can't reach it. A recording leaves your computer only when it is uploaded to recordful.app (Pro). - One tab. Your AI acts only in the tab you handed it by clicking the Recordful icon.
- Paired once per computer after you approve a matching 4-digit code. Only the official Recordful extension can connect by default.
- No credentials. Uploads and transcripts use Recordful's own sign-in. Your AI never sees a token, and shouldn't ask you for one.
- It asks first. Good agents show you their plan and ask before recording and before uploading. Tell yours to if it doesn't.
- Changes need your yes. Renaming, changing who can watch, commenting, moving, creating folders and deleting all happen as you, so a good agent shows you the exact change first. Comments are public to everyone who can watch. Deleting needs the exact video named and an explicit confirmation, and can't be undone.
- Test data only. Agents use test accounts and data. Sign in yourself on the tab first if a demo needs a real account.
Revoke access
- In Recordful, More → AI agents → Paired AI apps → Forget.
- Or from a terminal:
npx -y recordful-mcp unpair --all. - Or turn the AI agents switch off.
Troubleshooting

| "Recordful isn't connected" | Click the Recordful icon on the tab. Still nothing? Check More → AI agents is on |
| The AI shows a 4-digit code | Check it matches Recordful's window, click Allow, tell the AI to continue |
PERMISSIONS_NEEDED | Recordful needs one-time permission to record. In More → AI agents turn the switch off and on again and click Allow in Chrome's prompt (or press Start recording in Recordful once) |
| Recording won't start | Click the Recordful icon on the exact tab to record, then retry |
| Recording waits forever | Recordful may be asking something: microphone access, or the screen picker in screen mode. Answer it. Tab and area modes need no picker |
PRO_REQUIRED or NOT_SIGNED_IN | Uploads and transcripts need a Recordful Pro account, signed in in Recordful. Recording works on every plan |
BRIDGE_UNAVAILABLE | Something other than recordful-mcp is using port 47823, or an older recordful-mcp is running. Update or close it |
| No Recordful tools in the AI app | Check node -v is 20.10 or newer, then restart the app. Until it restarts the AI can use the command line |
Run npx -y recordful-mcp status to see the connection and pairing state.
